Design for the Screen class coming Spring 2023

Professor Billy Pittard

I am excited to announce that I will be teaching a new course about Motion Design in Spring 2023. The title of the course is Design for the Screen: Theory and History of Motion Design. To register for the class, look for EMC 4800 – Seminar in Media Issues.

Many students know me for teaching Student Success courses, but Motion Design was at the heart of my career before I joined the MTSU faculty. My industry work includes about 200 TV network brand identity packages around the world, hundreds of main title sequences for TV and feature films, groundbreaking work for interactive media platforms, highly-acclaimed educational media, and much more.

This class will include many of my first-hand experiences with the history and evolution of Motion Design as well as many of my own projects.

Topics covered in the class include:
• Opening titles for movies and TV
• Branding, marketing, and promotion
• Virtual production, digital environments, and digital signage
• Design for learning
• History and theory of motion design
• Team roles, collaboration, and careers
• And much more…

For the Spring 2023 semester only, this 4000-level class will be available to substitute as the industry history requirement for the new Motion Design major in Media Arts. See your academic advisor for official pre-qualification.
