Video & Film Production

The Bachelor of Science degree in Video and Film Production degree is unique in that it offers a blend of single-camera and multi-camera production as well as venue-based video production; in other words, filmmaking, live television, and live event video. Students choose how they would like to blend the curriculum, but they will graduate with a broad set of skills that gives them greater career options in the marketplace.

Filmmaking

Filmmaking students learn the art of cinematic storytelling that can be applied to any genre. There’s something for everybody in Filmmaking – whether it’s a leading or supporting position, MTSU’s film students are able to experience a variety of roles and customize their curriculum to find their personal fit. Facilities include a large stock of professional-quality field production gear that students can check out for assignments. The program builds on a solid foundation of film theory and film history, and provides practical hands-on learning opportunities from day one to graduation. Filmmaking is a concentration under the BS in Video & Film Production.

Live Production

Live Production students learn all about live television production including live sports, awards shows, game shows, cooking shows, and variety shows. Facilities include a 2,800 square foot television studio and a Mobile Production Lab that averages over thirty live events every fall and spring semester. Students have plenty of hands-on learning opportunities from day one all the way through to graduation. Live Production is a concentration under the BS in Video & Film Production.

Interactive Media

MTSU’s Bachelor of Science in Interactive Media degree offers opportunities to prepare for the career possibilities that grow out emerging media platforms and technologies. From media convergence to online and mobile app design and multiplatform interactive productions, majors tackle the many skills necessary to turn text, graphics, audio, video, and interactivity into a complete package.

Animation

Celebrating it’s 28th anniversary as one of the longest-running programs of its kind, the Bachelor of Science in Animation degree has an emphasis on 3D computer animation. The program also includes traditional animation, motion graphics, and special visual effects for film and video.

Photography

MTSU’s Photography program offers a blend of artistic, commercial, and photojournalistic skills. The program boasts brand new facilities that include a new digital lab, two digital classrooms, three darkrooms, two daylight-capable photo studios, a student gallery, and a camera obscura. The program also includes the nationally recognized Baldwin Photographic Gallery.

Media Management

MTSU’s Media Management program covers the business side of media. The curriculum helps students understand operations, programming, distribution, marketing, and sales for media and entertainment businesses.
