Motion Design degree program coming to MTSU Fall 2022
If motion graphics, visual effects, and virtual production sound like things you would like to do, check out MTSU’s new Motion Design degree program.
Motion Design students will create compelling and moving visual imagery that can entertain, educate, inform, influence, or inspire. You see this kind of work anywhere that production design really matters. The major sits at the center of animation, graphic design, and video/film production. Students get a strong foundation in visual art and design, while also learning the art of cinematic storytelling. Courses in motion graphics, visual effects, and virtual production teach students the advanced tools and techniques needed to bring their artistic visions to life.
Motion Design is an ever-expanding field encompassing opening title and credit sequences for films and television, informational graphics for news and social media, animations for music videos and live events, animated advertisements and branding, VR/AR/MR/XR visual experiences, and much more.
In the Motion Design capstone course and in many others, students have the opportunity to work on projects that build strong portfolio pieces and prepare student to launch their careers. These projects can range from producing graphics for live broadcast events such as sports or awards show, to designing animated backdrops for large scale LED video walls for live concerts, and even creating visual effects for films.
Facilities include PC based animation labs with Cintiq tablets, Mac based post-production labs and suites, two production studios, a 40-foot mobile production lab, an XR virtual production stage, expansive LED walls, a green screen cyclorama stage, a VR/AR lab, and an online equipment checkout system for professional production gear.
