It was a MAD MAD MAD weekend!
We sometimes call ourselves MAD (Media Arts Department), and the weekend of February 25-27 was filled with our special kind of MADness. Starting Friday afternoon (which is of course when the weekend starts) Media Arts had a lot going on!
Media Arts’ Live Production students were announced as finalists for Best Student-Produced Sports Live Game Production in BEA’s Media Arts Festival.
In the same competition, Live Production Professor Bob Gordon won an Award of Excellence for producing the Transatlantic Sessions, a live inter-continental collaboration for a live musical event with the University of Salford, England.
Media Arts’ Animation program rose in rankings in almost every category for best animation programs in America in Animation Career Review.
Friday night, instructor Mike Forbes’ students plus several alumni did LED installation, IMAG, and a live broadcast of a huge concert at MTSU’s Miller Coliseum. This is MTSU’s eighth year of teaching and conducting large scale LED installations at live events.
Friday night a bunch of our MAD’s Animation students participated in a voluntary non-stop 24-hour Animation contest that ended on Saturday evening. The great thing about an event like this is that it teaches students that they can achieve a lot in a short amount of time if they focus and work as a team.
The local 54-Hour Film Fest happened on the same weekend and numerous MAD Filmmaking students participated. Media Arts had about eight different teams of Filmmaking students participating in this contest. Judging results are expected later in March.
On Saturday night, MAD’s varsity team for live television production, Media Arts Productions produced a live broadcast on ESPN+ of MTSU men’s basketball versus Western Kentucky. And it was a big win for our Blue raiders. I dare say our production team performed as well with the broadcast as the basketball team did on the court.
These kinds of experiences give MAD students tons of opportunity to learn and practice their skills so that they are career-ready when they graduate. Let’s go MAD!
