EMC students rock the Ludacris concert with video wall production
Multi-platinum hip-hop artist Ludacris rocked the house, but it seems safe to say the video wall installation by EMC students kicked it up a notch or two. On April 6, 2017, MTSU’s Signature Events Committee organized the concert at Murphy Center, and EMC engineer and instructor, Mike Forbes’ Media technology students grabbed the opportunity to design, build, create content for, and run a huge video wall installation for the concert. Check out this brief footage of the show:
Mr. Forbes and his students worked with the MTSU Signature Event Committee, MTSU Production Services, and Ludacris’ management team to develop staging plans for the live performance. The students worked with a high-end video wall system on loan to the class from Video Equipment Rentals (VER) in Nashville. This popular video wall product, WinVision, developed and distributed by VER was the same system used at the 2016 Super Bowl halftime show featuring Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars.
Perhaps the most exciting aspects of the student work was the way the students created a medley of content for the video wall and then synchronized it to the live performance. This is the third year that Video Equipment Rentals has loaned the EMC department a set of video wall gear. This year VER provided over 220 panels of LED Equipment for students to learn the equipment. The partnership between MTSU and VER has resulted in numerous recent graduates working at the company or with their customers who use their products – the Super Bowl half time show, for one small example.
