Exciting spring semester for EMC multi-camera students
This semester is shaping up to be a very busy and exciting one for students studying live television production in MTSU’s College of Media and Entertainment’s Department of Electronic Media Communication.
The 25-person EMC Productions “varsity production team” has already produced five nine-camera live MT basketball games for Conference USA Digital Network and Blue Raider Network. The first one this season was from the Bridgestone Arena.
EMC Productions also produced their third “WHO KNEW” program, a TedTalk-style event presented by Nashville’s Music Industry Forum at Third and Lindsley in Nashville.
Last week, EMC Productions was hired to by NFHS Network to produce six TSSAA Boys and Girls Basketball Championship games, for satellite distribution by PlayOn! Sports, a professional sports network.
This May, EMC Productions will again produce the “Raiders Choice Awards” for MT Athletics.
Over a single weekend, the EMC/RIM advanced television production concert class produced the IBMA-award-winning Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver concert with Riders In The Sky, a Grammy-winning western/comedy act who have had both a CBS and an NPR series plus a song in the movie “Toy Story.” Both performances were recorded at the Franklin Theater.
In April, the class will produce a concert with the Nashville Symphony at the Schermerhorn and the MTSU Dance Theater Concert at MTSU’s Tucker Theater.
The EMC 3140 Multi-camera class is also busy producing six live baseball games for Conference USA Digital Network and The Blue Raider Network, six modern dances for video, seven episodes of a cooking series called “Snackbreak” and a two episode game show series.
The EMC 2131 basic studio production class will be producing 22 interview segments and 22 demonstration segments as class projects.
In and among the above efforts, multi-camera students have produced an interview show for Recording Industry Department with Beverly Keel and Bill Carter and an interview special for MT Athletics with ten members of the 1963 Blue Raider Men’s Basketball Team.
Before the semester ends, multi-camera students will have produced a six-episode interview/performance Songwriter Master Class series with Odie Blackman; another series of interview/performance programs for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the 2016 Blue Spark Awards.
We will also be planning our summer return to Bonnaroo, where last summer, we produced 16 live concerts in 4 days. At the same time, we will prep for the Fall 2016 Women’s Volleyball and Soccer telecasts where students have produced as many as 27 live games in 15 weeks.
Bob Gordon, Assistant Professor of Multi-Camera program production said, “I am proud of the enthusiasm, and the endurance of the EMC and RIM students who combine forces for these exciting, real-world styled projects.”
The College of Media and Entertainment leans forward.
